Around the World in 80 Days: Key Strategies in Managing a Short-Term International Assignment, Kristin M. Sampson
Short-term global assignments are on the rise and need to be carefully developed and reviewed just as their long-term counterparts. Establishing appropriate and effective policies and procedures are critical to the success of short-term assignment management. This presentation will address the key strategies which are necessary to ensure your program is competitive, compliant, cost-effective and consistent.
The complexities of short-term global assignments should not be underestimated; this session will identify a number of important challenges to keep a program compliant and ensure employees are motivated to accept international assignments.
Artists as Cultural Ambassadors, Thomas Warfield and Rohan Krishnamurthy
Arts play an important role in developing appreciation for different cultures, and promoting peace and cooperation among nations. The artistic creativity serves as a means of bringing different nations together and fostering an understanding and spirit of cooperation. Therefore, the artists are ambassadors, but cultural ambassadors. Rohan Krishnamurthy and Thomas Warfield will share their experiences in advocating global understanding and peace, and they will demonstrate their creative works.

Living and Learning in a New Culture: An Educational Perspective, Emily Craft, Jeffrey W. Cox and Junjie Liang
Communication between different cultures can prove to be challenging at times. This presentation and discussion will engage the participants in learning how to effectively communicate better with people from other cultures. Hear personal experiences from current international students and engage in discussion about how we all can improve our intercultural communication and create a more globally competent society.
Student-to-Student: Creating a Globally Competent Society, Josephine M. Perini, Richmond Kwesi, and Marlene Blocker
University of Rochester international graduate students from China, Colombia and Ghana have been meeting with high school students at Rochester Early College International High School. After a few presentations about their respective countries on geography, history, culture, language, food and music, the university students have become conduits. They have initiated connections with the Rochester high school students and students in their countries. Email, telephone calls, YouTube and Skype are methods used in the communication.
